The Windows To Your Soul

When cameras first came out a lot of cultures rejected the idea, they thought that the action of taking someones picture could steal their soul. Sometimes I could see how that mindset was formed, a picture is an almost exact accurate representation of yourself, a fraction of a second, forever frozen in time. A picture is so life like, so real, it’s a not a painting, or drawing that involved interpretation or bias, a photo is the real deal. I often think about this concept, sometimes the images are so clear and so intense that’s it’s hard to image that it’s made up of a bunch of pixels and 1’s and 0’s. It’s astonishing that we started off with emulsion, and it’s interaction with light and are now dealing with algorithms and capitalizing on the limitations of the human eye and how we perceive detail.
